Independent Living Training Program (IL)

The Independent Living Training Program (IL) is designed to help clients make the most of their abilities and increase their self-reliance and self-confidence. By providing them with training, resources, and information on adaptive equipment, we help clients take control of their lives and embark on the road to living independently. TLC Social Services is committed to working closely in collaboration with our clients, their families, and the San Diego Regional Center.

TLC Services will use various forms of training tools, individualized to the client’s needs and learning style. The materials used will be age appropriate and per the comprehensive aptitude of the client. Some of the materials will include, but are not limited to, visual aids, books, articles, trainings, pictures, graphs, role playing, discussion, exercises, and third party collaborates. Providers will use verbal prompts, hand-over-hand demonstration, partial physical assistance and reminders to assist in the development of client training and skills. All services will be provided in the client’s home, community or natural environments, within the County of San Diego.

The client and his/her planning team identifies the goals, and the client is the one who works toward the goals. The IL Instructor provides resources, training and encouragement to achieve the goals. IL training is a client-centered, client-driven process, and the clients who achieve the greatest success are the ones who enter the program with strong dedication and motivation.
